White Wine Sangria
08/31/2010
Sangria is one of the best party drinks, in my opinion. You can make up a big pitcher the night before and it’s good to go the next day! While I love red wine sangria, I thought using white wine with some nice, fresh fruit would be a fun change.
I actually made this for our customers who just moved into their new Douglas home! My mom and I put together a beautiful basket with dish towels, a pot holder, fresh lemons, two mason jars of this sangria, lemon poppy seed bread and carrot spice muffins! They seemed to have loved it, and it was really fun to put together.
Of course, I tried the sangria before I bottled it for them, and I was quite devastated to part with it. The cinnamon sticks added a great depth of flavor, and the fresh, ripe fruit tasted delicious in the drink, and on their own after sitting in the wine mixture! This is a great twist on sangria and might just be the best white wine sangria recipe I’ve ever tasted!
Enjoy!
White Wine Sangria
Ingredients
1/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
2 cinnamon sticks
1 handful mint leaves, divided
1 peach, sliced thin
1 lemon, sliced thin
1 blood or regular orange, sliced thin
1/2 bottle of dry white wine
seltzer water
Ingredients
Add water, sugar, cinnamon sticks and half of the handful of mint leaves to a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and bring to a boil for five minutes. Let cool.
In a pitcher, add the sliced fruit, the cooled sugar mixture, the other half handful of mint leaves, the half bottle of dry white wine, and fill the pitcher to the top with seltzer. Taste to see if it needs more wine or seltzer and adjust accordingly.
This is best if it sits in the fridge overnight so the tastes meld. The next day, just serve over ice or straight from the fridge!
Enjoy!
